Jennie Wade Room

Located on the second floor of the historic Main House (circa 1812), the Jennie Wade Room is a spacious, light-filled retreat overlooking the Inn's expansive lawn through large windows. The room features a comfortable king-size bed, a private bath with a walk-in shower, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a Roku TV for your entertainment.

The room's design is inspired by the Victorian Farmhouse style, blending classic Victorian elegance with rustic charm. Rich layers of textures, colors, and patterns reflect the design aesthetic popular during the Victorian era (1837-1901), while decorative elements inspired by 1860s seamstress patterns pay tribute to Jennie Wade's life and work.

About Jennie Wade

Mary Virginia "Jennie" Wade (1843-1863) is remembered as the only known direct civilian casualty of the Battle of Gettysburg. Born and raised in Gettysburg, Jennie worked alongside her mother as a seamstress.

During the battle, Jennie was staying at the home of her sister, Georgia Anna Wade McClellan, helping care for her sister and newborn child. As fighting intensified, more than 150 bullets struck the McClellan home. On the morning of July 3, 1863, while Jennie was in the kitchen kneading bread dough for Union soldiers, a stray Minié ball passed through two doors before striking her in the heart, killing her instantly at just 20 years of age.

Jennie was initially laid to rest in the family's backyard in a coffin that had reportedly been intended for Confederate General William Barksdale, before being reinterred at Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg. Her story remains one of the most poignant reminders of the profound human cost of the Battle of Gettysburg.
